  • car won't start

OK, This A.M. i went to start my car for work , I turned the key and nothing. The radio turned on i could hear the fuel pump priming the windows work. I checked the fuses inside the car I have not looked at the ones under the hood yet Everything seems fine. Except when I turn the key it doesn't try to turn over. There is nothing more then a click form the ignition. I am at work right now and wont be able to look at it till later, but i was wondering if any of you have had this problem or might be able to recommend a place to start looking for the prob

    Thanks for any info

    It clicks?

The starter solonoid could be shot.
Check for +12v at the starter on the trigger terminal when you turn the key to start. If the voltage is there, it's time for a new starter.

Check your battery as well. I just replaced the battery in my '02 last week. It had all the same symptoms you just described, but wouldn't crank. I was concerened it was a larger problem. I started out at the cheapest item and went from there. Turned out the battery was drained just enough for everything else to work.

Lossen the bat. posts and retighten them. Sometimes just sitting for a while or normal corossion will cause you to get a bad connection. I had it just the other day, went to remot start my truck and all I got was clicks. Retighten the cables and away she went.

I guess I miss worded it a little. There is no sound coming from under the hood. The clicking i was talking about was just the sound of the key turning in the ignition. I will try the battery connection but it is reading 12v on the dash gauge and on my amp

Does the gauge cluster act normal and power up correctly?

Turn on the headlights..... do they dim when you try to start the engine?

I would also check the battery and starter sounds like it is probably one of those two.

i tried the battery posts and it didnt change anything. The headlights come on fine, it was too light to notice if they dimmed. the radio and the dash doen not chnage when i turn it though. I am going to get a volt meter on the start and see if it getting th 12v when i turn the ignition. I think it is looking more like the starter --ugh

If the Security light comes on it could be your ignition at the key..There were a few time it didnt start, but then it started. Each time the security light kept coming on. Eventually the car just didnt start. Once it got flat beded to the dealer and they looked at it. It was the security at the ignition that went faulty. So they had to replace the whole ignition and gave me a new set of keys with a new chip. If that chip is bad it will not start not even if you try to push start it like I tried on mine lol.

i found the problem-it was something to do with the VATS. i cleaned it out and it is working now-I have an alarm/remote start to install for awhile now so i am going to have it installed and bypass the VATS.

                              Thanks for the info
