The LS1 aftermarket parts prices are continually coming down. The LS1 and LT1 bolt-on parts are virtually the same price range. The only real significant price difference is in the LS1 rotating assemblies and a few valvetrain parts namely the cam.

It does cost a little more to create a built LS1 as opposed to an LT1, but your money will be well spent on a motor that has the potential to make a ton more power than the LT1. I like the sound of both motors, but I am a bit partial to the LS1. Once you have heard a big cube big cam LS1 spin up to 7,500 RPM effortlessly, it's all over.

They have roller rockers, an aluminum driveshaft, weigh over 100lbs less, most of that weight coming from the front which gives them better traction than LT1 cars, amazing head flow, the WS6 and SS's have 275's out back for better traction, less restrictive exhaust manifolds, a better intake from the factory, etc. All of those perks and they run what? .4 faster in the quarter mile? Someone on this board ran a 13.6 in their LS1 Firehawk. Some guys are running 13.9's in a stock LT1. That's a difference of three tenths of a second. I think I'd rather perform those mods to my car and run low 13's in my crappy, inferior LT1 thank you very much
Red 95 Trans Am: M6, Moroso CAI, Magnaflow, Spohn sway bars, back to life as of 2/15/10!!!
      SOLD- Kinda miss it
94 Del Sol VTEC: 27 city/ 33 highway, knee deep in slowness
      SOLD- Good riddance!
2006 Ford Fusion: 2.3, 5 speed, could run 15lbs of boost with a 150 shot and it'd still be slow

A lot of variables go into what numbers people run. Driver, altitude, temperature, etc... It would be interesting to see the same person run an LS1 and an LT1 one right after the other.

Either way, the LT1 is in no way "inferior" (I do realize you were being sarcastic ). Both engines have their advantages and disadvantages.

Tom, like Greg said, there are lot of variables that go into the ET's that stock LT1's and LS1's get. You know this , we have talked many times on AIM. Many people have got LS1 cars into the 12's bone stock. How much ET difference do you really want from just a 55-60 HP difference and a minimal 100 lb difference?

The LT1 is by no means a inferior motor. It is a great motor for street rods, hot rods, and musclecars. The LS1 is just a much more race oriented motor, and is by leaps and bounds more receptive to modification, especially when you go into the motor. There are cam only 10 second LS1 f-bodies out there. It is a very impressive little 346 cubic inch motor.

i ve got both, and i like the sound of the lt1 more , but when I first heard the ls1 I was amazed how smooth it was, and it seems to rev up faster. I still have to take the ls1 camaro to the track, and the stock lt1 (apart from an underdrive pulley) ran 13,9 quarter mile..not too bad for a stock 10 years old car
