Dont get the distributor wet. It is located behind the water puump.
Drain the radiator first. There is a drain valve on the bottom passenger side. If the valve is stuck, dont force it. Remove a hose to drain it instead.
Clean the gasket surfaces well. Use your finger tip and skim a little gasket sealer on both sides of the gasket. Only enough to barely cover it. This will assure you only have to do the job once.
Take this opportunity to de-grease the front of the motor and inspect everything. Once again be carefull not to get the distributor wet. Having the front of the motor clean will make working on it in the future easier.

yeh i know not to get the opti wet. i did this once before with a used water pump(hence thats why i have to replace it again) and wheni was fillin the radiator back up i splashed the opti. woops, ill be more careful this time.
thanks
Pep boys actually has a decent water pump for the F body. They sell Bosch water pumps for 169.99. Not a bad deal from the OEM of the dealer (374). I have family working in one so I got it a bit cheaper. It took me a day to replace mine a couple of weeks ago. My idler pulley was bad too so i had to replace that the thermostat, belts, and hoses. You dont want to go used on items like that you spend more in the long run. I am glad I got 102,000 miles out of the original I probably would have gotton a lot more if I didnt stop using the car for 7 months. I took it out for a weekend, and everything was a mess. Water pump, pulleys, alternator, and my Cats. All due to not using it for 7 months lol. If you use it it breaks if you dont it break stoo you cant win lol.

Ouch they got you again.. Probably the worst thing they could have done to you. I never took chances when it came to my car. I used to frisk guys back in the day to make sure they didnt carry anything into my car. If caught it would have been my ride taken away.

yeh well needless to say, its made me a safer driver...haha, my dad and i own our business, and sometimes i have to drive...not smart, but someones gotta work
i just helped a buddy replace the waterpump on his 94 t/a, I dont think their any different from 94 to 97 that much but the only things we had to remove or should i say i had to remove was the air pump, and air pump bracket, and fan. Jacked it up pretty well so i could get under neth and sit indian style. I managed to get a socket and extension on one of the bolts through the Spark Plug wire so i didnt have to pull them. Got all this done in one night at 2 degress out side.
