  • Ideas for dressing up under carriage F-body

I am looking for any good ideas on how to dress up my under carriage. I do plan on making my bird a showcase car I am figuring while the car is going to be painted why not paint the under carriage as well. Only colors I plan on using are black, red, chrome, and silver. Lets hear the ideas fella's. Has anyone done it to there ride?

From the factory, the bottom of the car was painted the same color as the rest of the car.

It would be sweet to have the bottom painted in BC/CC and polished to match the top, then powdercoat everything else black. You could get a Stainless exhaust and polish that to a mirror. I'd be afraid of stone chips in the paint under the car, though. I wonder what it would cost to cover the bottom in 3M stoneguard film after it was painted?

To really do it "right" you'd have to pretty much strip the car. Drop the axle, k-member, drivetrain, exhaust, etc...

I've given lots of thought to the bottom of my car, but never done anything with it. My next house is going to have a 3 stall wide garage with room for 4 or 5 cars. One of the stalls will have a lift in it. (I dream of Norm's setup) Once i have that, I'll keep the botom of the Z as clean as the top with a powerwasher and nitpick the details. I just dont have the resources to do it now with a 2.5 car garage and no lift.

As you can imagine after 102,000 + miles My undercarriage is not to pretty now. So I definitely want to get it cleaned up. Before I take it in the bodyshop I will run it through the carwash I always go to that cleans undercarriages. Maybe I will have them paint some of the underside black and clearcoat it in places that dont get hot. The places that do get hot some Red heat resistance paint. Get chrome or polished differential covers, and get my sway bars chromed up or polished. This is only the beginning of rebuilding my Formula. I know its going to take time, and lots of cash.

The best thing I ever did to the underneath of my 1997 TA was a steam pressure washer. One of my buddies up at a local Chevy Stealership let me use their steam pressure washer. I was shocked at how well it made the underneath of my car look.

I think a gloss black chassis underneath, will all silver components would look super stellar-rrific. Have the rear-end, LCA's, k-member, SFC's etc. done in silver. Polished aluminum trans-pan, polished aluminum differential cover, polished aluminum engine oil pan, etc.

I always thought about adding a full undercarriage tray.

Which components should be silver? My driveshaft is already aluminum silver that I know. Under the wheel wells I will have those redone definately. What about a mixture of Red and blk under the Chassis with polished pans like you said?
