  • what is with automatics?

I've noticed while searching for a LS1 TA that all the ones that are within my price range are all automatic, convertibles, or have outrageous mileage. I was under the impression that a car is worth more with an automatic?? However it seems all the 6 speed cars are more expensive even if they have higher mileage. What's the deal?

I really don't want another automatic... it takes all the fun out of driving.

Well, the way I see it, people would rather have an automatic because they're too lazy to shift. ie. - old people.

And old people dont buy Camaros or Firebirds. The demand for these cars is with the 6 speed. I looked a LONG TIME to find mine. Be patient and one will find you.

Check out www.autotrader.com and use the advanced search option specifying manual trans.

              [EDIT]

              I love my A4 2800 stall 3.73.. its a blast.

Better than trying to shift through traffic
              all day!

And MUCH MUCH more consistent at the
              track!

I wouldn't say auto's are for old people... I have an automatic. But of course, I'm the minority here with a thirdgen, and I had no choice but to get the auto because the 350 wasnt an option with a manual those days.

I know I must seem old to you by being almost twice your age but I still consider myself young.

Driving an automatic, I wouldn't call it lazy, more like convinience.

All about cliches. Growing up in Switzerland where most of the people drive standards I learned to drive one and made my drivers license on one. It is fairly tough to pass the driving test and some people were just not capable to drive and shift at the same time so they had to pass the test on an automatic. That was then noted in the DL. So the cliche was that only people that couldn't drive well were driving an automatic.

Since I've moved over here I've only owned automatics and haven't looked back.

If you have to call me something (by driving an automatic), call me lazy. But don't call me old.

thats the most childish statement I've seen on a car enthuiast message forum in many years.......

an auto will beat an manual stop light to stop light on any given day.

1st: When I bought mine in 93, M6s were IMPOSSIBLE to find...I looked for 4 months. So I got a A4 and was content just to own the latest and greatest (IMHO) F-body to date.

2nd: With the proper modifications (Torque Converter, Shift Kit etc) an A4 will eat an M6 alive from a dig (and all things equal)...from a roll could be a different story depending on mods and driver's ability of course.

3rd: It's all in personal preference and availability lets not start A4 vs M6 bashing here on this board...its gets old VERY quickly. These types of posts will be seen as inflammatory and will be locked/deleted immediately.
