Ok I know the space saver spare is laughable at the best of times, but I think I've got the wrong one!

Stud next to my salad shooters its a good few inches smaller! like 3-4 inches! surly it must be the wrong wheel? car wouldnt sit right, car would be lop sided,

    15inch space saver...

The space saver spare is smaller in diameter than the stock tire. For that reason, you can not put it on the rear of the car, or it will destroy the Posi unit. If you have a flat on the rear, you have to swap a front tire to the rear and put the undersized spare on the front.

Yours sounds like it may be a bit smaller that is should be, but its not going to be the same size as the stock tire.

Is the spare inflated? I know it sounds like a stupid question... But my RS came with a space saver spare & a tank of compressed air. If I needed to use the spare I have to fill it up with the compressed air.

I dont keep any of the spare stuff in the car. The spare wont work with my 12" brakes. Its just extra weight anyway.

I just sold my salad shooters and the spare that came with the car. You are right. The spare is several inches smaller than the tires. I think you have the correct one. (Notice I didn't say it was the right one because I think GM didn't put a big enough spare in it.). Now try and put a bigger spare in the well. It won't fit. You are stuck. I don't think Vettes even come with a spare anymore. They use run flat tires instead.

I remember the inflatable spares.... my 1968 Firebird 350 came from the factory with the spare that collapsed solid against the rim, and needed an inflater canister to blow it up if you had to use the spare. But that's not what they put in a 4th Gen.....

Thanks guys! Has anyone of you guys used the spare? I can imagine using it would be pritty dangerous! Steering nightmare!

Think I might just take it out!

If I get a flat I'll just yell for help!

You can purchase a inflater can that has a foam in it to seal holes.. Is it any good?

i've used the spair on two different 4th gens on a stock 95 v-6 and a lowered 93 formula on the 95 it was fine we hit a patch of ice and bent the rim, so we threw on the spair and everything was cool. but on the lowered 93 it didn't work so well, but we had no other choice...

If you are referring to fix-a-flat, its probably not a good idea. Some places won’t even work on a wheel/tire if the stuff has been used. (I think its flammable) However, if you have a flat and cant afford a tow truck... Then it may be your only choice. I have been running my car without a spare for 2 years now. Never had any flats. ive heard a machnice say fix a flat is his worst nightmare. I believe it also gets stuck all over the rim inside also and sucks to get off.
