  • air filter for '93 LT1

hey, I was wondering if any of you are running just the K&N filter that is just stuck directly on the TB of a '93 LT1, since it is the only year of the non-MAF motors. Does anybody know what I am talking about?

ah, just found a pic of exactly what kind of filter I want:
    my car:
'86 Caprice Classic. Soon to have a 350 crate motor. Shooting for 300rwhp.

    the project:
check the www for pics, but a '36 Chevy Master Sedan, MII front end, Jaguar IRS, '93 LT1 powerplant with plans for 350rwhp, and many many other goodies

It will work, but you end up sucking hot air from under the hood and it negates any HP benefits. Better to get a cold air kit.

What Joe said...and how would you mount your IAT sensor?

lol, no, it won't suck in any hot air from the motor, trust me

it is COMPLETELY stipped out. Is nothing more than the sheetmetal floor, windshield, and complete drivetrain. That means no front end of any kind (kept the front metal bumper in place though) and no hood. It's even open wheeled. Plan to just have some fun in the thing right now until I get an old car to put it in. Anyways, I saw the K&N complete system, but the rubber boot on mine is busted in a few places, so can't even use that.

Anyways, to be more specific, I was wondering if I could get the part # so I could go down to the store and get one of my own. Thanks everyone in advance.

okay, question 2, Do I need it?
I think I know what you are talking about, but it wasn't even hooked up when I bought the car. It runs fine, just don't like running it without a filter on.

Yep, the PCM uses the temperature to determine the timing advance needed for optimum performance.

okay, is it that real little thing about half way through the intake? actually, IIRC, it is the only thing on the intake

You could disconnect the harness and insert a 4.7K ohm resistor. It keeps a code for being set and fools the computer into reading a 57º ambient temperature for maximun rate of timing advance.

Hey Joe, did you do this to your car? And if so did you notice much of a difference?

I've had the mod in place for several years.

the IAT is responsible for timing advance. Disconnect the IAT harness connector and insert a 4.7K ohm resistor into the harness (fools the computer into thinking a 57º ambient temps). You'll have to clip the resistor a little shorter and bend it into a U shape. After inserting the ends into the harness, I then insert it into a film canister and tuck it out of the way to keep everything clean and protected. This mod will quicken the rate of the timing advance, you'll have to run premium fuel and the throttle response will definately be better. It will negate the power loss experienced when the heat from the engine radiates to the IAT (especially with the SS filter setup) This is almost identical to the SLP timing tricker for substantially more money. You'll expecially like the fact that the first 1/2 of the pedal travel will have a much snappier response.

thanks Joe, will definetly use your advice.

seriously everyone, does anybody know what the part # would be for this filter?
