Will the LS1 drive shaft fit in my LT1? I've been having some slight vibrations at highway speed. Will this fix that, and also reduce rotational mass? Thanks guys, Ryan.

P.S. I'm on a budget, so i can't opt for some expensive ones

May i ask why you would want to attempt to put a LS1 driveshaft on an LT1? they make driveshafts for LT1's. go to www.thunderracing.com . They have excellent prices on most products, the best that i can find. The driveshafts are a little...well to say the least..$$$. but they are carbon fiber and can handle lots of torque.

also before buying a whole new driveshaft, check if your wheels are balanced correctly..that is what i would bet on being the problem. your local shop could check your wheels for proper balance, it shouldnt be that expensive. surely less expensive than a new driveshaft. tell me if you find anything out. later

Well the LS1 driveshaft is aluminum where mine is steel. So i would think that it would be lighter then mine(not worried about it breaking, i don't plan on making crazy horsepower) Plus it would be cheaper to find a used one then to buy one new. The guy i bought it from said he had the wheels balanced when he got the tires....guess i should get it checked anyway though.

i guess it will come down to trusting another persons word. i would take the cheaper route before buying something that expensive. check the junk yards too..they might have a TA in the bone yard, just look it over. hope this helps..later

Yes, the LS1 shaft will fit. However, if you are looking at getting an aluminum shaft, I would suggest the 1LE shaft instead. It is also aluminum but is larger and can handle a little more power. As for the problem at highway speed, if it is the DS that's causing it, then yes, it will fix it. And it is quite possible it is the DS causing it, but that's not always the case. Just my thoughts. Hope this helps

I bought an LS1 shaft for 125 bucks from that tennessee camaro/firebird salvage yard. It eliminated all of my highway vibrations and has held up just fine. It is so much lighter than the steel one. As far as the strength, I have done the hardest launches with it, chirped 2 nd and 3rd, clutch drops, you name it. It was a great mod for 125, and it elimanted the annoying vibrations.

You're also not pushing it close to its limit. The point is that the 1LE his a higher limit than the LS1 shaft

The vibration in the steel DS on the LT1 is such a common problem that there is a TSB on it. The replacement of the LT1 steel DS with a 1LE or an LS1 aluminum DS is also a very common, low cost cure. Don't make the guy sound stupid for asking a simple question - he's definitely on the right track. Suggesting that he use a $700+ CF DS would seem sort of off the wall.

Injuneer is right. I've been eying either one of them on Ebay for a while now. Just haven't been brave enough to buy one yet.

Cheap solution to get that vibration off from under my stock ride.

You're right, but i didnt want to suggest buying a whole new drive shaft for 700+ dollars, i was more or less telling him where i go to for most of my parts. I personally would check all of the junk yards around, even if you have to order it from a distant one. I had to order a headlight control module from a junk yard that was a good hour and a half-2 hours away driving distant, and it works great. So to sum up the story, thunderracing.com is a great site to find well priced products, the drive shaft not being one..but that is leaning toward high horsepower and high torque applications. That of which he is not interested in. To end this, the junk yard is your best friend for these kind of items. Sorry for the confusion.
