  • This is for a friend, its a power antenna question...?

I have this friend of mine who has a firebird with a power antenna... Well their power antenna won't go down any more whats wrong...? and should they get it fixed...?

Also they have about 78K miles on it and its a '98 model V6... They have had to replace their head light motor and also some speakers and the steering wheel audio controls, and the starter and some other minor but expensive things as well... Is it worth it to keep it or should they trade it...?

    EDIT:
I forgot to say that my friends car is a FIREBIRD BASE!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks

Mara, the problems are common...I'll attack later, I'm at work right now...so just sit tight.

Mara, the power antenna goes out, all of them do (import or domestic)...you gotta understand that. I'm just for mine to go, but for now it's working fine...you have to keep it clean, wipe it off now and then.

If the antenna isn't going up or down, try to give it a start push it down or pull up...if that gets it going then you can get some graphite to lube the ends, don't use oil; it attracts dirt. and CLEAN IT...if that don't work..then your antenna is shot, best beat, just extend it and unplug the power supply.

Headlights is a common problem too...not too sure about motors going out, but gears get ate up like fruity pebbles...

Speakers, heck i am in the process of replacing my units right now...stock speakers are good, but I blown 2 already..so Polk audio here I come...

What do you mean by steering wheel controls? You mean the unit it self or the lights...if it's the lights it's a simple fix, but the unit themself should last the lifetime of the car.

Starter out already??? Not a typical problem...but an easy fix if you're not machanically inclinded...

Honestly, a 98 is in the point where some areas start to show...this my friend is called maintaince. Things break and you should fix em...that's what I do.

If your friend isn't happy with the car, then they should let it go...but I don't see a problem at all. All I see is an opportunity to bond with it and make the car more "yours"...

          Hay thanks...

Hay thanks for the advice, LimTeng99TransAm...

They wanted a Camaro but they like the look of the Firebird, so maybe they will keep it and fix it back up...

          Thanks again...
