  • rock and oil pan = real unhappyness

Today was by far the worst day in a very long time. After five or so very horrable things happened one right after the other i dicided to go to my freinds house. Appon arival i hit a big rock rigt in the middle of the street as i was talking to someone in the passenger seat doing about 35mph. Some littel punk set the rock their, it put a hole the size somewhere between a baseball and a basketball in the oil pan. The rock then preceded to hit the car four more times, other damage unkown. My question is what do i have to do to replace the oil pan, what the best pan out their, and what else should i do while their. never mind the best pan thing i just checked the prices 600$ holy cow, mybe used then would an ls2 stock pan fit and be better.

Replacing the oil pan as you probably figured is not going to be easy. You should not have to pay $600 for an oil pan. I am sure you can get one from a salvage yard for cheap. If you do not install it yourself though it will probably be a costly repair. Did you check with your insurance company - they would probably cover it?

Easy...I believe there's 12 bolts. Remove them and the pan drops. IT's going to be messy, but it's an easy job. As long as there isn't anymore damage other than the pan itself, it's a simple unbolt, drop, install, rebolt.

You have to use some tack to keep the gasket from moving around when you install the new pan, but it isn't hard, just tedious

I'm getting a B&M deep tranmission pan w/ drain hole soon...

I think he is talking about the engine oil pan. That is not an easy task on an LS1. Not fantastically hard, but not easy.

You will need to unbolt the motor mounts. Then you will need to drop the k-member. There are 3 bolts on each side and if I remember correctly, they are 18mm. Unbolt the shock from the shock tower on each side. You may also need to remove the bottom bolt in the steering shaft to allow the k-member to drop enough unless you unbolt the steering rack from the k-member. Be careful with the brake lines and the power steering hoses.

The oil pan will barely come out. It has to clear the pickup in order to come out, but it will.

Do a search over on ls1tech.com or cz28.com in the "Parts For Sale" sections. You are bound to find a stock pan for less than $50.

If you are just looking to go fast - Heads, cam, spray - tough to beat combo on an LS1.

Go to ls1tech.com - search for vids of "terminator". He races everything under the sun - wins most - H/C + spray and you can get into the 10s.

I don't know what you currently have - a signature with your current mods would help.

I just sold my baby, it was a 2000 ws6 for 16200 and went and bought a 2000 t/a for 7400. I already spent around 1800 on mods that havent all shown up yet. Every thing but the Lts and y -pipe and sfc have shown up.
Then bought a gokart and other stuff and only have 6400 left. Im going to try to sell my jeep for 2800 and gokart for 800 then add that to the buget. All saturday and sunday my budy and i took the k-member down whith engine and trans and its setting in the garage for parts.
I really dont want to ever havt to do that again, and was wanting to do tranny build and mybe an ls2 with afr's and ls2 intake while out and sell the ls1 which worked perfect. My goals for the future are 600rwhp most likly with n20. Spdc sells a ls2 402 but i dont know its beefy enough or not, and dont know if the 4l60e can be built that strong. Im 19 and still learning so i may not know enough yet to do this.
