  • My ultimate goal

ok, so my ultimate goal for my car is to be at roughly about 425 hp. crank.

    So here's my plan:
Bolt ons: CAI, Elbow, 52mm TB, Pacesetter mids, highflow cat*, SLP loudmouth 2, MSD 6A, 1le driveshaft (bolton?)

engine: LT4 hotcam kit, maybe ported heads, (mail order re-tune)

Suspension: (and chasis) Sub-frame connectors, Lower control arms and relocation brackets, Panhard Bar, strut tower bar

So where do you guys think this will put me in h.p. and 1/4 mile? Will i need to upgrade the rear or tranny or driveshaft?

I was also thinking about a sts turbo if i felt frisky down the road 5 or 6psi. I'm pretty sure i would have to upgrade those parts if i got this. Also if there are any suggestions, chime in. Thanks guys, Ryan.

*if needed, or is the stock one good enough?

I think you're gonna need more than that on the motor for that power. The TB, headers and such are good, but I wouldn't go with the 1LE shaft if you want 425+ HP. I'd look at Spohn's Extreme Duty shaft. It'll handle more power than the 1LE, its supposed to be balanced (unlike the stock unit) and costs less than $100 more than a new 1LE shaft. As for the cam and heads, I'd look at Advanced Induction. AmericanZ28 referred me there and, after looking through their site, they've got some pretty good packages for good prices. Hope this helps.

I was really hoping not to have to replace the heads. Is there any way in producing that power with the stock or ported stock heads?

Yep. Porting does wonders for the flow.

I was thinking the hotcam kit because it also comes with 1.6 roller rockers. I figured i could get some pretty good numbers from that and the ported heads. If i could just break 400 hp i would be happy since its a DD.

Also if you guys have any good links for parts, like steve had. Go ahead and post

I don't think his reference to AI is telling you to "replace" the heads.... he's telling you who ports stock heads and gets good results.

You aren't going to get 425 flywheel from unported stock heads, and definitely not with something as mild as the LT4 HOT cam. On the other hand, you could get there for low $$$ with the LE1 package from ePortworks (Lloyd Elliott).

The website shows you what you need to support that kind of HP.

Exactly, thanks Fred . Either ePortWorks or AI would be a great choice. Both are priced about the same and will deliver similar results. You will still have your stock heads, they'll just be ported.
