I think you should get a Camaro or a Firebird. You do realize this is a F-body message board, don't you?

But, if given the choice, I would look for an Aero coupe Monte Carlo SS. The new Impala is Front drive, and that SUCKS! The MCSS could be made to be Very Fast. An LS-1 transplant project would be way cool.

If you're looking at the newer models than understand that they are both basicly the same car. One a coupe layout and the other a sedan. If you check under the hood you really can't tell the difference. So it really comes down to style, pricing, and packaging. SS models have the supercharged 3800 which puts out 240HP.

As an aside the Grand Prix GTP, which I think is on the same platform has the same powerplant tuned to 260HP.

      Of course I'd get a used 2002 Camaro/Firebird with an LS1.

          Don't "pimp out" anything.

As far as the Impala vs. Monte Carlo decision goes, I think you should get a Grand Prix GTP.

The Impala, Monte, Grand Prix...are all on the same platform with the same 3.8. I would pick the Grand Prix (both last gen and the new one)...more performance and the new GTP is fastest FWD sedan out there..

The V6 Nissan Altima would give it a run for its money.

Peak power for an Altima is a little higher than 240hp/240tq I think. So, it's not bad. One big advantage over the GM cars is that it can be had with a 5 speed! You won't find that on GTP, Impala, or MC.

Not sure about the power figures, but you are right about the 5 speed... score major points with that in my book...

Don't bother tryign to look for that test that GM did where they put the GTP up against numerous sedans -- one being the Altima. There is about a second and a half missing from the Altima's time.
