  • Problems removing AC pump

88 camaro with a 2.8L V6... i thought removing the ac system would be no problem at all... WRONG! It seems that i have to move my power steering pump to where my a/c pump is now... but I am not seeing how it will bolt up. Do I need to go buy a new bracket or am I just missing the obvious?

The a/c delete pulley for a V8 engine will work on a V6. It is just installed upside down from the way it bolts up on a V8 engine, cause it will be on the opposite side of the engine.

If you really don't want to use the a/c delete pulley. You'll have to get a power steering bracket from a non-a/c V6 car (junk yard, I think, is the only option for that).

Some guys on thirdgen.org have said they have been able to reposition their PS bracket to get the belt to clear the water pump. But, when I tried it the belt was still closer to the water pump pulley than I was comfortable with.

Assuming I find a PS bracket off of a non A/C camaro... would I have to get new soft lines for the PS pump. At a glance it does not look like the existing lines would reach. Or at worst case scenario, would it hurt any to leave the A/C compressor in place and just disconect it for the time being?

The non A/C ps bracket is only 1 inch higher than the a/c ps bracket, the hoses should reach just fine.

this is a non a/c 2.8L (not my car):

          Update on Serpentine Problem

As I looked around the engine bay I saw a picture of how to bypass the A/C (from chevy themselves) so I ran with it. I found that you need to get a 87.5" belt and you almost need some vasoline to get it on. End product... as shown below a picture of the water pump pulley... it is entirely possible, but it only leaves you with about .25" clearance.

sorry for the poor lighting I was in my garage and all i had was a flashlight.
