  • 2007 impala--any news??

Has anything been said about whether either the 2007 Impala (and/or Monte Carlo) will (1) have the LS-1 5.7 (versus the 5.3 v-8), and/or (2) will be RWD?? I am on the verge of buying a new car (yeah I plan to keep the ragtop) but would wait for a RWD Impala SS or monte SS if planned for the 2007 model year..

    Thanks.

It should still be the current model with few changes for 2007. GM is working on the next Impala. The last word I heard made it sound like they're still considering RWD. No decision on direction yet however. GM Chief Designer...I can't remember his name, talked a little about the design. Like the Camaro it'll harken back to Impala glory days, with past cues on a modern design. I can't wait to see what they cook up. May not see it till the '09 MY though.

Don't expect more than 300HP on a FWD though. They're already pushing the limits of the current technology with that much power. Still, the current car does 0-60 in 5.6. Not shabby at all!

There was an interesting post on GM Inside News today concerning the next generation of Impala, check here if you're interested: http://www.gminsidenews.com/

There were no sources given for the information presented, but it's consistent with some rumors I've been hearing in the auto industry, and it's also fun to think about. With a new family, if GM could pull off a breathtaking new Impala as described in the GM Inside News post, I might just prefer one of those over the new Camaro.

Can't wait to see what GM has up their sleeve. I just hope I'm not setting myself up for disappointment.

GuinM made that post. This guy knows his stuff. He keeps contacts and does this stuff as a hobby. He mainly posts on the 5th gen forum at CamaroZ28.com. I've been reading that board and others for years now. Guy has quite a reputation. Until that post he was saying that GM wasn't sure whether to go FWD or RWD. That's the first I've seen him commit.

Hmmm...you know...this is probably more off topic than tech.
