Ok so today i went to look at a trans am, and it was all good exept for the hood, it had a bunch of chips in it. However rather then repainting the hood i wanted to just upgrade it to the hoods on the Ws6, the ones with the scoops. Does anyone know where I can find these hoods?

Do a search in the For Sale sections of various f-body boards such as www.ls1tech.com and www.cz28.com

There are always stock hoods for sale for good prices.

If you want aftermarket, try Googling ASCD, Motion Performance, SunCoast Creations, Glasstek, US Body, SLP, Harwood, VFN Fiberglass, Moore Performance, etc.

That's all I can think of right now who makes 4th Gen hoods.....I'm sure there are dozens more.

The paint on a steel hood is just as prone to rock chips as a glass hood. And I think you'll be hard pressed to find a steel hood for a 4th Gen TA and I don't think you would want to add that much weight to the front end.

Pretty much the only steel hood you are going to find is the stock, flat hood. Anything with scoops or aftermarket is generally going to be fiberglass.

Wait your saying that on the Ws6 the hood they come with outof the factory is a glass hood?

Yep. It's the only way to form the snorkels on the hood. It wouldn't make sense to have a steel hood like that from the factory. They would have to have welded scoops, plus it would be heavier. Fiberglass is just a simple mold (relatively).

Yeah keep looking around. Sometimes you find them even on Ebay. I bought my WS6 hood from Kevin (fastTA) on this board and I love it.

For the ram air hood, they offer the air box. Should i get that or the Slp intake, because if i get the hood and the Slp intake, it wont be pulling the air from the scoops it will be from under the car so it kindof defeats the purpose, at least i think... tell me if im wrong.

I have the SLP intake...honestly, I don't feel much of a difference. The airbox is sealed w/ the SLP intake and the only thing I see if a dirty air filter. Maybe a dyno will prove me wrong, but the my butt-o-meter tells me nothing. But you are pulling cooler, fresher air from in front of the car...a plus.

I understaind that but i was wondering if its worth it to get the Slp intake or the ram air airbox that comes with the ram air hood, because one draws air in from the top through the scoops and one draws from the front and deems the hood scoops obsolete.

Are you getting the hood for looks or it's minimal performance gains?

Im getting the hood because the stock one is chipped mainly, but really.... looks... Im just wondering if its worth it to utulize the air scoops as a place of induction or the slp kit witch pulls it from way up front.

Honestly, I'm not sure on what gains you would get from the SLP kit over the ram air, but I'd be willing to bet it's minimal if anything at all. If you are getting the WS6 hood, you might as well utilize the scoops so at least you can say the ram air is functional. Just my '02.
