  • rear hatch struts

my buddy works at a pontiac dealer, so i had him order me new struts for the rear hatch...well the were as weak or worse then the ones on my car originally..

whats the deal with that? was there a recall on them or anything? and by the way, why the hell is that rear hatch so heavy?

Glass is a lot heavier than you think. That rear hatch glass is very big and very thick...

I get my struts from McMaster-Carr. You can get them to hold 5# to 100# an are cheaper.

That's where we usually order our gas struts from. That or Grainger.

I bought mine from a salvage yard in Cleveland, thru Ebay. Very good service. I think they are called "cleveland pick-a-part" and on the invoice it actually tells what car they came off of. My new struts came off a 2000 Firebird Formula. I got 'em put in and they work fine - best of all, they're all original.

And yeah, that hatch is a HEAVY beast! I could not believe it!
