Well, some of you might remember that i was in the market for a new drivshaft. I heard that the dealerships had to replace it for free. Do you guys know if this is true? Or if it only applies to certain years. I also heard that you had to have a copy of the service bulletin to be able to get it fixed. Oh and last question, can i get it done at any GM dealership or does it have to be pontiac? Thanks, Ryan.

It was actually a TSB that said the steel driveshafts used on the LT1's can cause vibrations at highway speeds. If you go to a dealership and meet up with someone who has half a heart, if you're lucky, you might be able to work with them to get a discount. Other than that, it's the GM full price of like 330 dollars or something like that. I've tried doing this once. I walked in with a copy of the TSB and everything. Since the car isn't anywhere to being new, and since there is no warranty on it, they pretty much said pay full price or get out. I've heard people being able to talk the price down, but I didn't have that luck.

I've already seen that graph, def worth it in my opinion. I'm just hoping that the freakin dealership will replace it for free. It would be really nice, but more i read, the more i doubt they will.

Dealers don't have to replace anything for free, unless it is a recall. The driveshaft bulletin was a TSB, not a recall.

Yeah, i figured. Oh well, i'll bring it up and see what they say. If they won't pay for it then i'll just have to wait.

Well, they won't cover it. But atleast i tried. Oh yeah, to change the plugs $210, wires $410 Guess I'll have to do them my self.

I noticed in the TSB that they were only talking up until '96, does that mean I have an aluminum ds?

Is the one I have any good, or should it be replaced?

I thought the 97 WS6's got the 1LE aluminum? Perhaps I'm wrong, I've been out of the game for a while.
