Well, some of you might remember that i was in the market for a new drivshaft. I heard that the dealerships had to replace it for free. Do you guys know if this is true? Or if it only applies to certain years. I also heard that you had to have a copy of the service bulletin to be able to get it fixed. Oh and last question, can i get it done at any GM dealership or does it have to be pontiac? Thanks, Ryan.

It was actually a TSB that said the steel driveshafts used on the LT1's can cause vibrations at highway speeds. If you go to a dealership and meet up with someone who has half a heart, if you're lucky, you might be able to work with them to get a discount. Other than that, it's the GM full price of like 330 dollars or something like that. I've tried doing this once. I walked in with a copy of the TSB and everything. Since the car isn't anywhere to being new, and since there is no warranty on it, they pretty much said pay full price or get out. I've heard people being able to talk the price down, but I didn't have that luck.black 95 t/a, a4, beefed up tranny w/ higher stall converter, transgo shift kit, trans temp gauge, trans cooler, richmond 3.73's, loudmouth, hypertech programmer, 160 thermo, descreened maf, TB bypass and airfoil, trick flow intake elbow, underdrive pulleys, moroso cai, edelbrock panhard rod, bmr stb, slp sfc's, fiberglass firehawk hood, hawk pads, taylor wires, ngk plugs, royal purple fluids,...and hopefully more to come

Dealers don't have to replace anything for free, unless it is a recall. The driveshaft bulletin was a TSB, not a recall.Rob B 95Z A4 Tech Page (Part numbers / locations, how to's, schematics, DTC's...) Home Page - shbox.com

I noticed in the TSB that they were only talking up until '96, does that mean I have an aluminum ds?
Is the one I have any good, or should it be replaced?
