  • maximum dimensions for wheels on a 1996 trans am

I was wondering what the max wheel width is that will fit on a 1996 trans am (ie. 9.5"...10.5"...etc.)? I am looking at getting a set of Y2K or Z06 wheels for my TA, but some tire shops keep telling me the most I can do is a 9.5" width. It doesn't make sense, especially when I see other people with them. Is it only possible with suspension modifications? What's the most my wheel well can take? Also what offset do I need?

    Thanks for your help.

    Mike

I have 17x9.5 for my front rims with a 54mm offset, and my back rims are 18x10.5 with a 58mm offset on my 1995 Formula. I went with black Z06 rims and I am going to end up needing spaces in order for it to fit better without rubbing.

Ok cool. So does the back rub or the front, or both? and have you changed your suspension in any way?
