Hey guys, I hope everyones summer is going great! Well I have decided to keep my LT1 TA for now and won't go LS1 until I graduate high school and get better paying job which will be this year. My birth day is coming up on the 25th and I will have some cash, and I am wanting to get a cat-back. My orginal plan was to do Lts and full exhuast, but I realized it isn't wrth it since I will be selling car and I don't want to dish out alot for a pricy cat-back. So pretty much what I am asking is what can you guys sugest for me, I am wanting LOUD!! I have thought about maybe a cutout after the y-pipe when I get my catback. But defantly want something cheaper, good-ole stock system just isn't cutting it!! Esspecialy now that we put Lts on my buddys Z28!! As always; Thanks for any help!

just to let you know there is no cat back flow better than cutout.plus you wanting LOUD just get cutout put it between I- pipe and you are done, cut out cost about 35-45 bucks and if you want to get electric one its about 135 bucks.

Don't go for loud...go for clean sound. Trust me, you'll be tired of the loud early on. Loud is good...but not for day in day out driving.

Yup. Quiet when you want it, loud when you want to really be heard.

I agree, I thought driving around with open headers was a cool thing. Then I decided to take a road trip to SanDiego (10 hrs away), I was hating life by the time I got to tucson. Not to mention the tickets I got while I was there. I guess when I was 18 I thought loud was great, now I prefer the smooth sound of the borla cat back.

SFC( not sure what kind), drilled/slotted rotors, K&N air filter, all free mods, 3" Borla cat back exaust, electric exaust cut out, NGK spark plugs, royal purple motor oil, and Zaino .Maybe more. I find more stuff done to it everytime I look at it.

That is why I am going to pickup a cheap flowmaster 80 series ( I no not best flowing out there!) and take it to my buddys exhuast shop and have em' fabricate the pipeing and also get an electric cutout and I will have nice somber tone and then with the flip of a switch become very loud!

O yea I love the sound of open headers!! When we put LTs on my buddys Z he ran it open for a few days! Then he put the pacesetter y-pipe on and it still was very loud but more likely not to attract $$$$$ in tickets from the police.

I love my SLP LoudMouth system, but I also don't drive my car every day. It is a very loud system, and I think it sounds great... especially at WOT.

With that said, I couldn't deal with it as a daily driver. Even on a long trip I could see this system, or one like it, growing very old - very fast. As Joe and Chris said, go for a nice clean sound with a decent grumble. The nicest system I've heard on either an LT1 or LS1 is the Corsa catback. It's clean, easy-going, but wakes right up when needed.

Just get a cutout. LT1's are a lot more forgiving with exhaust tones than LS1's. The exhaust note is about the only thing I miss from my LT1 days, but boy, do I miss it.

Buying a catback now, knowing you're going to sell the car shortly doesn't make a lot of sense. $300-500 is a pretty large chunk of change. It'll get you a full-life cycle catback when you go to an LS1, or a better car to start.

Yeah, well I can get a flowmaster 80series muffler decently cheap and can get it welded up for 25$ and I am gonna get a cutout as well. ... JEeez 300-500 for catback plus a good 6-700 for headers and all the goodies to go with header install means I better start saving now to put them on my LS1 in a year!

If I wasn't planning on selling in a year I would most likely go with the LM, I love its tone, and of course you don't have a problem hearing it!

Just another worthy part of the topic........ I have SLP headers, Random Tech high flow Y pipe, bullet cats, 4" mufflex cat back. On the throttle, it will rattle your chest. At cruise it purrs like a tiger at anything other than between 2000 and 2500 rpm. in that range the drone at cruise isn't something I could deal with as a daily driver. One has to be careful when selecting an exhaust. Automatic cars will cruise at a different rpm than stick cars. In general, I've found that stick shift cars can get by with a wilder exhaust than an automatic for daily use. You can always choose a different gear with a stick and cut some of the drone. With an auto pretty much always being under a little more load, combined with different cruise rpm you'll find a louder exhaust on an automatic gets tiresome pretty quick on long trips.
