  • Question about F-body mirrors

I have noticed a couple Firebirds (Formula's actually) that have the tinted mirrors, like a Euro luxury car. I have never seen this option on the Camaro, or even seen an RPO code for tinted mirrors.

I know the housings can't swap; wrong lines and contours. How about the glass itself? I am tempted to try and buy the glass part and swap it into my '01 Z car. Anybody try this already?

    Thanks-

Any glass shop could cut the glass for you, especially if you have the original mirror as a template. As far as a code for ordering the part, I've never seen a tinted sideview mirror on an f-body... at least not factory. Of course, that may be different for places like Florida.

I had to recently replace one of my mirrors. I was asked if I wanted the tinted or non tinted. I didn't know there was ever an option for it.

Yeah, I never knew about it, either, and there is little documentation. I only happened to notice it on a car on a dealer's lot. When I went to a friend who has access to the GM parts computer, he could confirm that Pontiac and Chevrolet mirrors are different part numbers, good from '93 to '02, but no mention of tint.

Jeff, who offered the option? A glass shop or a dealer? I would like to get this "option?" on my Camaro, if I can track it down-

        Thanks!

Actually it was a junk yard or used parts place. http://www.tennesseeauto.com/ $50 a mirror for power mirrors.

I was pleasantly surprised to find mine where tinted when I purchased my car.

There was a short period of time during which some Firebirds were sold with side view mirrors that have a slight blue tint. I can't remember which year(s). Actually it might have been only part of one year. Anyway, I found the information in a FAQ. I don't know where that faq is though.

I have the blue tinting on my side view mirrors on my '97 WS6, and it really does help to cut down glare. Especially at night.

According to the 1997 sales brochure, the blue tint was included with the power mirrors. The power mirrors and tint are listed as standard on the Firebird convertible, Formula convertible and all T/A's, and "available" on the Firebird and Formula coupes.

My 94 Formula has the blue tint.

According to the parts list all domestic Pontiacs with power mirrors (RPO code DG7) from 93 through the first half of 99 got blue tinted mirrors. The 2nd half of 99 through 02 got clear glass.

Pontiacs with manual mirrors 93-02 (RPO code D35) it doesn't specify whether it is blue or tinted.

Export Pontiacs with power mirrors 93-93 (RPO code DD9) it doesn't specify whether it is blue or tinted.

The Chevy parts list does not say blue tint anywhere so I don't think it was an option.

Thanks! That tells me what parts I need to order to retro-fit my Z28. I am pretty sure that the glass is interchangable, even if the plastic housings aren't. Once again, the people on this list come through!

Let us know if they will interchange. I would like to do that mod too.

Hey Joe you have both a Pontiac and a Chevy. Do the actual mirrors look like they would interchange?
