  • 1991 Trans-am 305 fuel rail/injector help

I just bought a 1991 Trans-am with a 305 Tuned Port Injection. I believe the injectors or fuel rail on the passanger side of the engine are clogged. This car has been sitting for about a year. I have come to this conclusion based on a good fuel filter, and fuel pump. The fuse box has 2 fuses for the injectors. When I take out the fuse for the passanger side injectors the car will run. When its back in ... LOL ... sounds like someone is tryin to croak her. So I know I should take off the rail and injectors and clean them out, but someone was telling me there is a product you can use to avoid all the wonderful extra work. beats me if they knew what they were speakin of .. any hints of time-saving short-cuts? That rail and injectors are in a place that looks so insane to take this apart. Thanks ahead of time!

I really doubt all the fuel injectors on one side are clogged.

You say it runs with a fuse removed. Does it run perfectly fine, or does it stumble and miss? What exactly is this fuse labeled?

I agree with the above the odds of 4 injectors on the same side being plugged is pretty slim.If it has been sitting for a year the gas in the tank could very possibly be bad. Try emptying the tank and using new gas.

SFC( not sure what kind), drilled/slotted rotors, K&N air filter, all free mods, 3" Borla cat back exaust, electric exaust cut out, NGK spark plugs, royal purple motor oil, and Zaino .Maybe more. I find more stuff done to it everytime I look at it.

I guarantee the gas bad. First thing you need to do is drain that tank.

Then you can run a cleaner such as Techron or Sea Foam through the tank with some new gas. It will just depend on how badly the gasoline is coagulated.

the fuses are labeled ... fuel inj 1 and fuel inj 2. with the 2nd fuse out .. the engine idles fine and runs basically at half power when driving. with that 2nd fuse in ... doesn't even start. The gas was about empty so i put in about 6 gallons of 93 octane and a fuel system cleaner that was supposed to unclog clogged injectors. if the gas is coagulated i can't understand why the car runs with one set of injectors on.if i reverse this and only have a fuse in the fuel inj2 slot .. the car won't even start. thanx guys i apprecitae the help ... and yes i did buy the techron stuff already ... just a curious question. should i just let the car run out of gas ... then put in 5 gallons and some techron and give that a shot? and the only reason i thought its the injectors is because the previous owner removed the drivers side fuel rail and injectors and cleaned them out .... otherwise i wouldn't be thinkin this. Thanx again in advance.

Have you tried starting it with just a little bit of starting fluid with both fuses in. I had an 89 TA that sometimes wouldn't get fuel while you were turning it over, but if you used starting fluid it would fire right up and keep going after that.

When you use the starting fluid does it run of that and then die, or does in not run at all?

I cant think of the part name off hand, but in the distributor there is something that tells the injectors to fire. Maybe one of the other guys can think of the name. Other than that maybe some sort of electrical problem with which I would be of no help to you.

I will defeintly check out the wiring. I am going to be draing the tank .. changing the fuel filter .. removing the fuel rails cleaning them out ... removing the injectors .. and cleaning them out as well ... all in all ... hopefully this process will fix the problem ... if not ... well then electrical time ... however that would be kind of odd .. since I checked the computer and it came back with only the default trouble code that the system is ok and working properly .. LOL .. YEAH RIGHT !!!!!!!!!!!!
