94 Camaro Brake Issue

I have an issue with my Brakes at the current moment, but I would like some opinions on what it may be before buying supplies for the vehicle.

The actual Symptoms are as follows.

When I'm driving down the road, the brake feels normal. I place my foot on the brake and the car starts to slow down. Sometimes though when I place my foot on the brake, there is no tension and the pedal goes all the way in very quickly. The car does not even slow down, I need to pump it a few times before it starts to slow down, and tension builds up again. This happen around 60% of the time, so it can be recreated. I'm going to the mechanic soon, but I would like your opinions on the matter. Thanks F-Body

Dumb question but.....have you checked your fluid level?

sounds like you have a leak somewhere my friend. 1st off check your fluid level. If its low .. top it off .. be parked in a good visible area ... pump the brakes with the car off ... look underneath for a leak. (most likely a rusted line) if its near a wheel ... then something is loose. If this is not the problem the next step is to check the system for air. You might possibley have air in the system. It could be the master cylinder as someone has previsouly stated .. however i would check these things first.

A leak will be consistent and the pedal always going down. Air in the line would make it spongy but it would still be consistent. Her description of the problem is classic to the master cylinder piston seals going bad.

Yeah thanks for the numerous replies, at the current moment I was leaking something. Still, the Master Cylinder Brake fluid is not draining. I think it's my Oil. I always find a puddle of oil under the car. Can that affect my Brakes?

A leak in the lines, or air in the lines should light up the "BRAKE" light. Master cylinder does look more likely, if the light's not on.
