  • Full of it?

We had air conditioning put in my house yesterday and one of the installers was talking to me about his old lt1 camaro he had, he told me that a tire shop told him flipping the tires so the direction of the tread is facing the back of the car makes them grip better, talkin about he took a turn at 90mph.... Has anyone heard of doin this?

I would think the tire manufacturers knew what they were doing when they put the direction on the tire in the first place...

Maybe if you put the directional treads on backwards, you can brake better! I could see going from front to rear to equalize wear, but that is a little much....

There are a lot of car stories out there. I like it when someone tells me their bone stock El Camino went 10s in the 1/4 mile.

I *THINK* if you found a quarter mile cliff, and pushed it off, you might get 10's out of it....

              10s

Wild Willy I *THINK* if you found a quarter mile cliff, and pushed it off, you might get 10's out of it.

              My thoughts exactly.
Think thats bad, there is a guy who owns a speed shop near where I live who made this statement. "There were some guys at the track who were running in the 2s, thats TWOs, at the track last week. This is an 1/8th mile track that is dangerous to run 5s on. I had gone there for his grand opening because my cousin knew him, and I brought some pictures of my Beretta which I still had at the time. Did not ask me one question about the car and told a whopper besides. His father was very interested and asked alot of questions. What a Yo Yo.
Needless to say I never went back there.

Hey, a guy at the CC car show with a beautiful 68 RoadRunner told me and Tracy that his engine was a 383 bored out to 500 cubic inches with a stock stroke. It also had 525 horsepower.

It's always amazing the stories you will hear at car meets and shows. I just take it with a grain of salt and look at it as the entertainment of the day.

Stock 3.48" stroke and bored out to make 500".......now that's a good one!

Hey... I'm sure it was uphill, around a corner, and a rolling start.

I agree... Car shows are the best place to get stories out of people. Heck, even the gas station. I was filling up my T/A earlier this year, and a guy in a Camry was at the pump next to me. He walks over and compliments my car. Immediately, he starts telling me all the cool cars he's had over the years, including an '89 Saleen Mustang (all stock) that would "smoke" my car.

Right after that, he notices I'm putting 93 octane in my car and tells me I'm wasting my money. Whatever, Dude. Get back in your Camry and leave me alone.

Yeah, the guy was half in the bag, too. It was a beautiful fully restored old mopar. I mean it was perfect. Obviously he didnt have any hand in the work and simply bought it that way because he was totally clueless.

Gravity accelerates an object downward at 9.8 m/s/s

In 10 seconds of free fall the car would travel 490 meters or .3 miles, so yes, you could easily get a 10 out of it!
