i got a ses light for the egr flow or something, the actual code has slipped my mind at the moment...if i get a egr block off plate, will that throw any more codes? and im guessin the easiest way to do fix this problem is to remove the intake? thanks for the help.

Generally a good idea to save the exact code. There are two possible... 1 for low EGR flow, 1 for the EGR vacuum solenoid circuit. Using block-off plates will simply insure there is no EGR flow, and insure you have the code and the SES light.

Assuming its the EGR flow code, there are 3 ways to make it go away:

    1. Fix the low flow problem. Check the valve and see if its working. Clean the pintle and the hole in the manifold. Verify the vacuum lines are connected and not cracked. Verify the solenoid is actually opening.

    2. Have the diagnostics programmed out of the PCM. That will leave a possible "system not ready" flag if they hook up to the ALDL connector for emissions. I think the good programmers know the cure for the "not ready".

    3. There's a spoof circuit that inserts a resistance in the MAP circuit when the EGR solenoid is energized. That would fool the PCM ito thinking the system is still operating.

Not sure why you would want to remove the intake to fix the problem?????

LT1s are notorious for getting carbon buildup in the line to the EGR and the EGR valve which the computer sees as a low flow condition and sets off the check engine light. The dealership has a machine to clean out the carbon from the tube to restore the flow.

i figured id have to remove then intake, i havent really looked back there yet to see how much room i had to work with.. plus i have a intake that i painted that i wanna put on and this seemed like a reason to do it.

i dont wanna take it to a dealership, the cost a arm and a leg.

        thanks
        for the replys

o yeh and it was the low flow code

There was a recall for the EGR valve for '96 and some other years. I think it was posted in 2000 or so. If you have the time, you might want to look it up.
