    Auto Dim Mirror Wiring

    Does anyone have an auto dim mirror in their f-body? I recently got one from Ebay and it fits perfect, but need to know what one wire is for. There is a black one for the ground, a red one which I assume is the "Hot" wire and a green one which I have no idea what it could go to? Maybe ignition? I would appreciate any replies. Thanks!

    map light perhaps? what did the mirror come out of?

      Hmm...looks like a Ford mirror...

      The 3rd (green) wire is for reverse.

      Red= switched +12 volts
      Black = ground
      Green = hot when backup lights are on (for safety reasons, prohibits
      mirror from dimming when gear selector is in reverse).

      '87 Camaro - 2.8L MPFI, 700R4 swapped to T5, B&M Ripper Shifter, Dynomax Super Turbo muffler, CATCO high flow cat, K&N air filters, 180 degree thermostat w/200-180 fan switch, 3.42 rear end, Global West steering brace, polyurethane bushings/trans mount, Spohn adjustable torque arm.

        This mirror is supposedly removed from a 1987 IROC.

          Ok. They were available in the late '80's, I've just never seen one in a Camaro myself. I've driven some Ford rentals back then with them in it, never cared for the feature.

            Thanks for the info. I never noticed that the auto dim mirrors did not dim when reversing. I learned something new. Thanks again!
