Bring the revs up in 2nd gear, sidestep the clutch, immediately putting that foot on the brake just hard enough to keep it from rolling forward. Bring the revs up to something in the 4,000-5,000 rpm range. Do not take it any higher than 5,000rpm. When you want to stop, do not just lift off of the throttle. Everything will come to a slamming stop, with possible damage. Take your foot off the brake and it will start to roll forward. Lift up on the throttle slowly, continuing the roll until the tires hook.
How high you need to bring it up before you dump the clutch will depend on the tires and the pavement. Street tires on wetted pavement will only take 2,000rpm and won't hurt anything. Drag radials on dry pavement may require enough RPM to do some damage to the rear if you haven't preloaded the drivetrain to take the slack out of everything.Fred
