  • 2000 TA WS6 engine question.... pics attached

Hello again.....Take a look at the attached pics of the engine in my 2000 TA. Are there supposed to be plastic 'covers' over the electronics that are on top of the valve covers? (As shown by the red arrows) I seem to recall that in possibly a later model year, there were some type of plastic cover that either had 'LS1' or maybe 'TransAm' printed on them.

Just curious, as I am trying to keep this vehicle 100% stock...

    Thanks..

Are you refering to covers similar to the "Corvette" covers over the LS1 below? If so, there was no such thing on the stock F-body LS1's. There are some aftermarket parts out there, and I've even seen folks put the Corvette covers on. It is a pretty ugly engine to look at. In "All Corvette's Are Red" the author talks about how GM Powertrain wasn't given enough time and money to make it look nicer, ala LT1.

Yes, Joe, that's exactly what I was referring to. Not too crazy about putting 'Corvette' covers on though !!!! No need to cheapen it up !!!

Are those covers available that don't have the 'Corvette' logo on them, and any idea what aftermarket company carries them?

      Thanks again...

Offhand, I don't remember, but you can check out the sponsors at this site. Or go over to ls1tech.com. On the forum there they have a large list of sponsors. I'm sure a few of them carry those covers.

Ok, thanks.... and you're right.... that's definitely not a pretty engine to look at, but it makes up for looks in performance !!!

As I am keeping this car 'factory stock', I guess the covers are out of the question, though.

Well, you peaked my curiosity, and I did some poking around and found these. This is probably the best looking set I've seen. They're a little pricey though.

If a guy wants fuel rail covers, but not Corvette, you buy the Vette ones and fill in the lettering and paint them to suit your taste. They are commercially available for a couple hundred bucks, or you can get the Vette ones for a lot less from Dal or Summit & do it yourself. You got a Vette motor, less the 4 bolt mains anyway, so no big deal if you leave the logo intact. That's what I did.

BTW - Those Chrome things, whatever they are, look awful.

Yep..... use 3m flexible bumper repair to fill in the lettering indentations, sand and finish in your choice of color.

I found the covers in the pic above at Jeg's website. They had to go and put "JEG'S" lettering on them though.

If you could fill in the lettering well enough on the Corvette covers than I'm sure most folks would think it was stock.

Aren't all the LSx engines 6-bolt mains?

                            Correct.

Kevin, the LSx motors and even the LT1 motors were put in a lot of other cars from the factory....they just so happened to also be put in the Vette.

I agree with jdm, Corvette emblems and badging do not belong on anything other than a Corvette. It cheapens our f-body's to do so.

I really like those polished aluminum covers that Joe K Zeee and jdm posted. I've seen them before and they look business.
