  • setting pinion preload

just replaced pinion seal. i thought i would be able to get the nut right back to where it was before, i cant. some say to measure the in/lbs it takes to turn the wheels with the pinion but i didnt check before i took it apart and i cant find the torque spec anyware. i guess it would not be the same on every car but all i have to go on now is a ballpark number i can get from someone who has done it before. the rear end i making a faint sound ive never heard before and its driving me nuts trying to fix it. can anyone help?

at least its not leaking anymore.

It's 15 lb/in on a used bearing and 25 on new bearings with a recording dial torque wrench.
