How much better is a high flow cat than a regular cat? Is it worth paying extra for?

my buddy put a hi-flo magnaflow cat on his truck. it runs better, and sounds MUCH better. I would def. put on an aftermarket hi flo cat, it's not much more. I think he paid like 55 for his hi flo cat.
