  • 2000 Trans Am WS6 (stock) noise

I just noticed last night that I have a 'whine' in the car's rear end ( and no, the wife is not in the back seat !!), but only when I get up to about 60mph. The whine will go away immediately if I let off the gas, as to unload the rear. Any suggestions?

    Thanks..

These small case rears tend to "sing" just a little, as long as the whine doesn't get louder or has a rumble with it, it is probably just the harmonics from gears. Backlash and wea pattern has alot to do with this, what you don't want to hear is a louder whine the harder you accelerate or decelerate.

Thanks, Joe. There's definitely no rumble, or metallic growl. And like I said, it only shows up when you reach a certain speed, and above, so you are probably right about the harmonics.

      Thanks again...

My car was doing that, so I bought a Loud Mouth exhaust. Now I can't hear the gears anymore.

the only way to fix it is to turn the knob on the raido clockwise until sound is drowned out.

Or better yet, turn the radio all the way up, roll the windows all the way down so the wind AND the loud mouth exhaust drowns it out.

....or, I'll just leave her covered until next Saturday, when she leaves for the largest car show in Ohio. Park 'n Shine at the GM factory in Toledo. Will probably be somewhere in the neighborhodd of 3300 cars. Anything you could imagine will be there.

Largest free show in the state...... possibly country.

Thanks all....... Maybe now I've found a good use for the Monsoon sound system !!!
