  • Right Blinker doesnt flash (Not the bulb)

    Hey everyone,
Been having a problem with my 3rd gens right turn signal for a while now. I tried to fix it myself, but I have had no luck. So I figured I would throw it by you guys. Instead of just throwing new parts at it.

    Symptoms:
-The right blinker doesnt flash. It just stays lit.
-The right front marker lights light up and stay lit.
-The right front turn signal lights up bright and stays lit.
-The right rear turn signal light doesnt do anything.

    Parts replaced so far:
    -Right Rear blinker bulb
-Entire rear wiring harness from trunk back

What should I be looking for? Is the problem in the wiring or the switch? Any thoughts?

Take a 12 volt test light an check for power in the right rear socket when on to see if you have 12 volts.I had the samething an it was the socket. Good luck.

The socket was replaced when I replaced the rear wiring harness. The problem has to be somewhere from the trunk foward.

Does anyone know how the power is switched from the front to the back? Mabey a wiring diagram? Since the left blinker works fine, I am guessing that it cant be the flasher?

I'd recommend you test for power where that section of harness connects. Maybe the connection is bad. That is definitely the problem, though.

The flasher is designed with a metal arm that bends as it heats up with the circuit load. When it bends, it causes the circuit to go open and lights turn off. Then it cools off and bends back to its original position, closing the circuit and the lights turn back on. that's how you get the on-off-on-off-on-off...

If the load on the circuit is not enough to cause the arm in the flasher to get hot and bend, the lights will just stay on. Having a bulb missing from the system would be enough to change the load and cause it to stay on. A bad connection in the harness, a burned out bulb or a broken wire would cause this.

Thanks for the help guys. I did as TraceZ & Blazer suggested. I just checked for power at all of the connectors starting at the rear of the car & working foward. It ended up being one of the 100 connectors under the dash. A long flat one that had about 10-15 wires in it. It had worked itself loose. I tightend it up and put a zip-tie around it to keep it from coming apart again.

That takes care of ONE of the things I failed inspection for.
