  • Easy, but urgent, clutch question.

    Greetings guys,
I used to be a regular on this board about six or seven years ago until I sold my threee previous Camaros in favor of a more economic Saturn. However, I recently purchased a '97 Z28 so I'm glad to be back and love what you've done with the place!
Anyway, I'll be installing a SPEC stage 2 this weekend to replace the worn-out original clutch and noted that someone said the stock pressure plate bolts would be too short to use with the SPEC. My previous f-bodys were all 3rd gens so I want to be sure that this will be an issue for my '97 LT1 before the stores close for the weekend. So, what do you all know about these bolts? Will the stock ones work or will I need longer ones? If replacements are required; does anyone know which specific bolts I will need and how many? Thanks you guys, I appreciate the help and look forward to seeing you all on the board in the future!

I used stock ones on my car, so I don't know why anybody would say they were too short. No issues with mine, and mine's been in for at least 3 years now. 96 WS6 car, if you're wondering.

I did. I bought the SPEC stage 2 and the stock bolts were too short. The stock pressure plate is bent sheet metal therefore about 1/8" thick. The SPEC is a thick aluminum like 1/2" so the bolts were way too short.

            excellent...

Well mine worked out just fine,
I did the job yesterday and despite a difficult time getting the clutch fork to re-seat on the throw out bearing, all went well. Man, that thing sure does grab on now. Thanks again.
