  • Coolant Level Sensor

Replaced the coolant level sensor today, and after driving the car a few miles the sensor popped out and drained all of my anti-freeze. It seemed odd in a pressurized system that it just pops in and out with nothing to keep it there. Did I do something wrong installing it or is there a trick to keep it in place? I have re-installed the sensor and filled the system but have not driven it yet.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Agreed, the clip must be in the correct position to stay on.

Yes, there is something to keep it there.

Where is the coolant level sensor located? Does it cause the low coolant light to come on?
When you unscrew the coolant cap off the radiator- how far down should the antifreeze be on a cold car like 2 inches exposing part of the coil inside?????

The sensor is a few inches below the radiator cap. Yes, it is what controls the light on the dash.
The radiator should be full to the top on a cold engine.

Ok. Just checked it radiator fluid was full to the top. A week ago it was like 2 inches below the top though??

Make sure the remote reservoir has the correct amount of coolant in it. The system will expell coolant into the reservoir and then draw it back out during cool down (if needed).
