  • Tell me what u think

Well i finaly got one! I got a 2000 SS with the billstien suspension, slp performance exhaust, zr1 rims, and auborn rear. It only has 7700 miles on it. I paid 21400. That a good price? I have a week to decide if i want the warrenty, its $1600 for 3 year, 36000 miles. I wouldnt get it expect there is kinda a very very slight bang going througt the gears (its a 6 spd), I dont know if that is normal, the way im driving it or the start of trouble. Well i think thats about it. I have till monday to back out, let me know what u guys think.

It is normal for the T56 to make a slight rattly sound sometimes. They even did it brand new. From what I have heard here, it is the front bearing rattling a bit. You'll only hear it at very low RPMs going slowly under minimal load. Could this be the noise you are hearing??

$1600 will buy a new transmission if need be. I'd skip the warrenty and take the gamble everything is OK. You'll most likely come out ahead. If you do your own work, you will almost definitely come out ahead. Parts for these cars really are not that expensive.

    Congratulations on your purchase!!

Congrats on the car, 7700 miles is pretty low for a 2001.

Regarding the warranty, if you're going to mod it, you may want to think twice about getting the warranty. Doing things like headers and exhaust may not be a problem, adding ported heads & a cam will probably cause you some grief. A lot of this does depend on the dealer you go to and how much they're willing to overlook.

Another thing to consider is what company is providing the warranty. If it's a GMPP warranty that may not be a bad deal. The extended warranty on my '97 T/A paid for itself because it covered things like a timing cover leak x2, new water pump, optispark, 1LE driveshaft, lighter and driver side headrest. All these were replaced under the extended warranty AND with the car pretty heavily modified (heads/hot cam/headers/gears)

if it's a third party warranty, I would recommend carefully reading the fine print. Some of them can get pretty tricky and have things like mandatory oil changes every 3000 miles even if the car is stored during the winter. You miss one oil change and say goodbye to your warranty. This happened with the Lubrico warranty on my '95 YJ

      PS

I went with the 6 year, no deductible warranty when I got my '02 Hawk and I've already done the long tubes, loudmouth and PCM tuning.

I got the Lubrico warranty with my T/A and I called them up and I was told that I would have to fill out a form that I was putting it in storage. I had to do an oil change 30 days prior storage and once I take it out I have 7 days I believe to change it again.

Mine is in storage since early Sept. and it probably will stay there until April

If the car only has <8K on it, it is still under factory warranty. I guess its possibe for it to have pased the 36 months already, but still with less than 8k miles I would hope that you wouldnt have to worry about things breaking. Is this warranty getting added to end of the manufacturers warranty?

Why do you have only a week? You should be able to opt for an extended warranty right up to 3 years and 36K miles from the in service date of the car. If you are hesitant, there are MANY extended warranty services out there. Do some shopping at least.

Well i actually just talked to the warrenty company now...They are called western general. They said that as long as i match the manufactures maintainance schedual, i shoud be covered. Also, they said they sent out an inspector to inspect the car, so that means i wont be able to get away with much will i? I know a few guys that work at a dealership so i figuered that they would be cool if somethin broke but is some guy comes and sees a pair of headers on the car he show the red flag. The warrenty is 1600 and i only really want it incase the tranny goes, i dont think (and hope) that these cars have may problems with anything else? All i really want to do is put a pair of headers and a loudmouth on the car. As for the future i be better off financialy so if somethin breaks and the warrenty is void i be alright. Besides, with out drivin it, how they gonna know that it has heads and a cam in it?
Oh yeah, i have till a week after i buy the car to deside wheather or not i want the warrenty.
