  • Best year of the LT1?...

    Hey everyone,
Just a quick question. I am going to be dropping an LT1 into my 3rd gen thise winter. Are there any years I should look for or avoid? Why? I know they switched to a vented opti in 95. I am planning on replacing the opti before I put the engine in. Is it possible to replace a 94 non-vented opti with a vented opti?

    Thanks in Advance,
    Mark B

Maybe, depending on desired outcome. The biggest difference between years is mostly the external componants. The physical long block is almost identical, there are differences in distributer/cam design, fuel system configuration, programming, exhaust. Is it possible to change the opti? Yup. It's not just a simple swap, the drive is different.... meaning more parts than just the opti. I suppose if I had the choice, I would go with a 95-97 for the vented opti.

-What are the differences in the fuel system & programming?
      -Whats the difference between ODB-1 & ODB-2?
-Exhaust doesnt matter because im not using the stock exhaust.
-Cam will probably be changed to aftermarket before installation too.

This may be of some help:

        http://www.f-body.com/forum/showthre...ht=differences

OBD I vs OBD II results in the latter having many more diagnostic codes for much better analysis of trouble codes, as well as 4 oxygen sensors, 2 of which monitor the effeciency of the cats.

Oh and the most important one to me is SFI vs Batch injection.
