  • 111 octane Racing Fuel

I purchased some Racing Fuel at a local gas station from a pump. I asked the girls in side the store is the gas leaded or unleaded and one of them said she didn't know and the other said that them could not sell leaded gas from the pumps out side. Is their a way to tell if it is leaded or unleaded.

It is a blue thunder 111 racing fuel, and didnot say it was leaded are not on the pump.

If you put it in your car and it wipes out the O2 sensors and catalytic convertor, its leaded!

All kidding aside, I dont know. I can buy leaded race fuel from the pump here in New York, you just cant pump it into your car. Its gotta go in a gas container.

If it was truley "111 octane", it was LEADED. There is nothing available un unleaded over about 104 octane.

A small amount of lead will not hurt the O2 sensors. They are rated at 50 hours on leaded fuel. But the cats may be another story..... they do not take well to lead, which quickly "poisons" the precious metal catalyst.

Why do you need 111 octane?

Trying to run supercharger/stock bottom end.

I am trying to mix the 111 with regular pump gas to raise the octane level in the regular fuel. I am thinking about mixing 5gal or 3gal 111 and the rest 93 octane. Trying to get it to 100 octane.

        P.S.

If you bought it from a local gas station, most likely it isn't leaded. It is illegal for them to sell leaded gas out of the pump to the public.

Where I used to run in Kaukauna, the station by the track sells leaded high octane racing fuel. It is a regular looking pump, just away from the regular islands a bit. But, it is definitely leaded, for racing use only. It is unlawful to put that gas in a street driven vehicle. The gas has to go in a car on a trailer, or a gas can.

I would agree that's it leaded.

You can always mix your own fuel. Buy some Xylene at a paint store. Mix 1 gallon of Xylene to 3 gallons of 93 octane. Add 1 oz of Marvel Mystery Oil for every gallon of Xylene. Makes 99-100 octane that's O2 and cat safe. Just keep it off the paint.

You can also substitue Xylene with Toulene.

I used to do this before I went to the alky/water injection. Works great.

The question is still... "why do you need 100 octane"? If you are running nitrous or a blower, it makes good sense. If you have a really well built, high compression motor, it MAY make sense. I know when we did the "NA" tuning on my engine, we were not able to make any additional HP with anything higher than 94 octane. Using 100 octane fuel on a basically stock engine would be a waste of money.

This question, like most of the tech questions, would be easier to answer if it was accompnaied by some specifics about the application, the engine, any mods, etc.

My goal is to try to keep down detonation.

Mr. injuneer im trying to keep down detonation. I am currently going to be running a 8psi Procharger with stock internals. Mods that were added with that were 52mm throttle body, 36lbs SVO injectors, PCMFORLESS OBD-1 Conversion kit with the blower specs programed in it. The only thing the fuel is for is insurance of less detonation.
