engine abuse???

okay so tonight this guy in a Mustang GT with headers,full exhaust,intake,computer tune,3.73 gears, and all bolt ons wants to race. well we race up this two lane road for about 1/2 a mile or so, and this was all up hill, he jumps out ahead for a second, then of course i pull away from him and at 110 mph later he is WAY behind! I'm talking 75 or so feet behind!! So i obviously smacked his 'Stang!he wasn't a poor sport but he said he missed 3rd...that's what they all say..but i still put a pony back in it's stable!! But what i was wondering is with that kind of racing i was seeing rpms of 6k, and soo would that be hard on my engine with 67k miles on the clock??? I was getting nervous because i'm not sure if that's bad on my engine to be taching it up that high.... Can these engines handle that high of rpm's for that long??

Is your car manual or auto mine auto and it shifts at 6k when i get on it all stock

First off.... the stock tach reads high. If "96firebird's" stocker is shifting at 6,000rpm, its probably a case of the tach being off, because the stock rev limiter is closer to 5,800rpm (varies with gear). But since "RICEATER" has a custom program, the rev limiter might have been altered.

Taking it to 6,000rpm isn't going to hurt it. The question is wheher you are helping or hurting the performance by shifting that high. With the mod's you list, you probably should be shifting a bit lower for the best ET.

But keep in mind, the stock tach probably reads 200rpm or so higher than actual engine rpm. Don't worry about it.

yeaa i got my pcm reprogrammed and they changed the rev limiter to 6k...but i'm just wondering if at 76k miles like mine, if my engine is going to handle that kind of revving.....but Injuneer says it wouldn't hurt the engine. I know it wouldn't be bad on a newer car with less miles..but like mine is almost 13 years old and has 76k.
