  • Simple Question....

    Yes another "oil pressure question"....
1995 Z28 pretty fresh motor, about 10,000 miles...

    Cold Idle= roughly 60 pounds
    Warm Idle= 25 pounds
    Driving 55-60mph= 40 pounds
Under EMERGENCY braking, once stopped= nearly 0-5 pounds but only for a second, then it returns to 20 pounds...

The last one is the one that concerns me.... is that normal?????
Is it cause the pickup is towards the back of the pan, and all the oil sloshes forward?????

There should be no change in pressure during hard braking. Perhaps the pickup is not low enough to the bottom of the pan or it has come off.

ugh.... so ur telling me , I gotta pull the pan????

Im getting alot of responses, with people thinking the tube fell off, and that I should remove the pan and weld it on.... any way to check without removing the pan..... maybe drain the oil and check with a magnet or something????

        Loose pick up tube

I had the same thing happen to one of my 93 Z's. Off with the pan and the pickup tube was loose. Replaced the pump under warranty and there have been no further troubles.

do I need to lift the motor off the mounts to get the pan off the bottom, because of the Kmember.... Unsure with the 95... my 96 has a tubular, and I can get around that one...

If it is the pu tube, can I just weld it back on???

One last question b4 my car gets on the lift tomorrow.... I was thinking, (from top to bottom) is it not, motor, then oil pump, then p/u tube, then sump????? If so , then if the tube fell off, shouldnt the sump have fallen off as well, meaning there would be 0 pressure all the time....?

it sounds to me like your pickup tube is loose, not completely fallen off. yet... Although it could be that the pickup is to high... It goes motor, oil pump, pickup tube, screen. The screen is part of the pickup tube. I am not sure but I believe you have to loosen/remove the k member to get to the oil pan.

ok.... wanted to thank everyone for their help in solving this problem. Whether posting a response, or sending me PM's, I took ur advice. I got the car on the lift drained the oil, and used my fist to pound on the pan.... Low and Behold... I heard something bouncing. I undid the motor mounts, dropped th exhaust, loosened all the bolts on the K-Member, pulled the pan...and there was my pu-tube sitting in the bottom. Just wanted to say thankyou Again. She's good as new.
