I'm looking into an HID kit for my '97 t/a but I can only find the ones for the '98's and newer bc pre 97 they have sealed beams but I have converters to change the sealed beams to housings that fit lamps. Now my question is which kit fits the stock wiring harness so that I don't have to cut that off? there were regular xenon lamps in the housings when i got the car but that caused the highbeam light to stay on in the dash and a very dim/yellow headlamp discharge...when i removed them i noticed one prong was bent to fit into the stock headlight harness. I replaced them with regular sealed beam units but i seriously want to upgrade. HELP!!!

i got an universal kit with h4 bulbs, , and already had housings that accomodate h4 bulbs. i also have the hi beam light on on the dash but thats because the low and hi beam wires need swapping.

the kit came with plugs that fit straight into a h4 bulb harness, so you will need an adaptor from stock to h4, or you could make one. no need to cut any of the original wiring, and the ballasts should fit above the frame rails

    hope this makes sense

There are HID kits with Hi & Lo beams in the same headlamp housing, pricey, and HID fog lights too...
I have not the info right now, but there are plenty of automotive shops with these kits...
I'll try to post info later

i dont know , they were already on the car, was a canadian version, and its a formula, no fog lights. but the bulb has both beams, a hid one and a regular one, and for some reason the hid one is the hi beam, but that can be changed by swapping the wires.

it is really easy to make an adaptor for h4, either get a socket for h4 from a junkyard an put terminals on the other side and just push them into the stock sockets, or when you get the hid kit , take the terminals out of the socket and push them into the old socket.

if you have trouble or are not sure i ll have a look at mine , i got to change the wires so the hid will be on the low beams anyway

I have an HID kit in my car too, but you have to be careful with what you buy. I have a set of the stal-style housings with an H4 bulb, and went with a single filament HID kit (no high beam). This is much less cost, and HID's are so bright, you shouldn't ever need high beams. The problem is that these housings are set up for a 100 watt H4 bulb, so when you go HID, the light is so bright it goes everywhere. So I'm either going to have to buy new housings or manually go in and add mirrors to tune the lighting so it's not spotting eagles and stays on the road.

I will say though, that I also have HID kits in my motorcycle and my van, and they make a WORLD of difference as far as visibility goes. They are well worth the investment, IF you already have composite headlights.

Good point...the headlight housings, the best are the Hella ones, because the inner design let the HID beam spread right...Cibie and others brands are not suitable to use with HID...

I´m checking my data base..about this kits...
                  regards

What is the Hella housing number to order? 72207 is too big, and 72146 specifically says won't work with Firebirds on one site, but that it will on another! I'd rather order new housings than modify mine, but I can't find any on ebay or through a google search other than the cheap stal-style ones that I have now. Why don't the 72146's work in our cars?

You can see the frustration im having!!!!!! when i had the h4 bulbs with the bent prong i couldnt turn the headlights on with the foglights either which would totally piss me off so i wanna make sure i can still do that if i buy that converter
