  • need help with tranny problem?

I've got a '95 TA A4 2.73s. I'm using the HPP+ tuning with the improved shift firmness and recently my car started having tranny problems. First off, it has 96000 miles on it. In 1st gear under WOT it will not shift to 2nd, I have to back off to shift. I work at a fast lube place and did a tranny service on it 2 monthes ago, shortly after the problem started. I know if you wait too long to do the tranny it can "f" things up, but it had only been 35000 miles since the last one. Do I need a new tranny? Or maybe I don't want to hear that answer

To me, it sounds like time for a rebuild. Do it before something physically breaks and you'll get it done for alot cheaper. When stuff breaks the price goes up dramatically.

It seems to be a pretty common occurance for people with HPP programming to have tranny problems when they remove tourque managment and firm up their shifts. Like a time bomb its just a matter of time until the transmission goes kablooie

Try pulling the shift program out of the PCM. You may have a clutch issue (read: rebuild time), but it could be other things as well. That tranny is elec. controlled, meaning it looks at TPS, rpm, temp, etc.. to determine shift points. You may have a control problem or a sticking shift solenoid, electronic pressure control problem, the list goes on. Best bet is to take it to a GOOD tranny shop that will DIAGNOSE your problem and not just rebuild it and wing it out the door. What area are you in?
