  • Replacing fuel Pressure regulator

I have been having various troubles with my car recently and have ultimately come to the conclusion that the fuel pressure regulator needs to be replaced. I will be doing the job at home, and just wanted to know what exactly I will be replacing, does it come as a unit or do I just replace the diaphragm that is in it? I was looking online for parts and had several different resuslts so i figured i'd come where i always do...thanks in advnace as usual.

You can replace it as a unit or in parts. It will require removal of the upper plenum unless your some kind of contortionist. If you decide to go the diaphram replacement route, to do it right you will need a special torks bit with a hole in the center to take the FPR appart. If you want to cheap out you can break the inner metal stand out in each screw. If you go the replace it all route, you will need to remove the bolts from the fuel rails to get the FPR out as you will need to spread them to get the lines apart. Be careful of the orings on the lines as you pull it apart. I would replace the upper and lower runner gaskets as well at this time, and you may have to anyways as they usually tear. Remember to remove ALL vacume lines from the upper plenum before you rip into it, as they are usually quite brittle and break easy. Thats about all I can think of right now.

I believe that is called a Security or Tamper Resistant TORX bit.

I'll probably just replace the diaphragm for now to make the job a little bit easier. Do you guys know what size torx bit I will need? thanks guys, thats just what i needed, I am probably selling the car soon...unfortunately but college means I need money so I'll just have to get another later on!
