  • Gauge Cluster Swap?

My 97 Z28 has an analog trip/odometer gauge. I have found a 97 gauge that has digital trip/odometer. Is the miles stored in the gauge itself or in the pcm? I have 73k and the new cluster has 85k,so I will have to have it sent out so it matches the miles currently on my car.

Im not sure that someone would or could change the mileage on it...seems like that would be illegal. I do know though, when I worked at a Chrysler dealership (10yrs ago), that whenever a customers cluster had to be changed, we had to send it in, and we got a new one for them...but with the same miles that was on the old one.

A stealership can change the milage for you legally if you bring both clusters to them. They have to by law if you buy a new guage cluster from them and have it installed.

I would drive the car as is for another 12K miles, then swap.
