  • T-56 rebuild?

Does anyone know of any master rebuild kits for LT1 T-56? I just did the conversion and my 2nd and 3rd syncros are bad. I want to rebuild it so I can race it, but mainly for the street.
How much does a rebuild typically cost R&I myself?
    I LOVE COBRA'S -
    THEY TASTE LIKE CHICKEN!

Here is some info on the T56 http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/6_speed.html

There is a place here in Atlanta that sells the parts and rebuilds them. http://www.southerngearco.com/

I believe one of the procedures for setting the bearings is to hang the transmission from the tailshaft end and measure the end play with a dial indicator. Also I believe at least 1 of the gears is pressed on and it has to be pressed off to replace the synchro. My point is most people don't have the tools to rebuild one. Do you have the tools?

There are some parts you can upgrade in it like the shifter forks from aluminum to steel.

there are several specialty tools required to do the rebuild. Think of it as a 3D jigsaw puzzle requiring dedicated tools for the job. It's a PITA!

        You might try this...

I would recommend that you get in touch with Rockland Standard Gear. They rebuild the T-56 and similar transmissions. Their prices are reasonable and turn around times are pretty quick. I have used them and am pleased with the results. This is a lot faster and easier than trying to convince one of the big transmission repair companies to take it on when you do not have the tools or the workplace. I went that route with one of them and utterly wasted $1500 on a rebuild that lasted less than a month.
