My car is in storage, but I remember correctly you have to loosen the fitting at the exhaust manifold and undo the clip and then you can move the pipe out of the way and get the valve cover off. If yours is like mine, I have adjusted my rockers 3 times and after 3 months the rockers are loose again. I've even went to the dealer and picked up new locking nuts and it still comes back.
Are you sure it's coming from the valve cover? I have seen where the back exhaust manifild bolt breaks and you get an exhaust leak.
Good luck.2005 GTO (mine) K&N CAI and Magnaflow exhaust, drilled and slotted rotors, and other minor mods.

Are you possibly confusing the EGR system with the AIR system? The EGR valve is on the back of the intake, and doesn't interfere with the driver's side valve cover at all. Appears what you are really asking about is the AIR valve that sticks up off the driver's side exhaust manifold. As described above, you have to loosen the fitting that goes into the manifold, and remove the rubber elbow, to allow the check valve pipe to rotate out of the way.
From Shoebox:
AIR
EGR

Soak it down with a good penetrating oil like PB Blaster (not WD40). Do it when the manifold is cold. Let it sit overnight.... might help you break it loose. I know its really easy to round the corners of that soft nut. If you could get a 6-point "line" wrench on it, it would be better than using an open end wrench.Fred
