  • Power antenna question

Well, I go out and get in the T/A this morning, and the antenna is stuck in the up position, but the motor is still making noise after I power "on" or "off". Do I need a new antenna, or the whole assembly (motor)? I think they come as one unit, but I'm not exactly sure what's wrong. Thanks!

There is a plastic ribbon with gear teeth on them that runs on the antenna motor and as the ribbon goes down I beleive it just goes down with gravity but I could be wrong. I replaced my power antenna from Auto-zone. Its was fairly easy and not too expensive.
I usually keep my antenna clean by spraying WD-40 and wiping it off. I made the mistake of spraying it with white lithium grease buy a week later it broke. So just keep any dirt build up off and it should last quite a while.

Steve is right...the plastic gear-teeth rod thingy broke. You'll have the replace the whole antenna...

Or do what I did...pull the whole unit out and put in a stubby. You'll save 5lbs of weight.

Take the antenna assembly completely off=get to go faster.......thanks for the tip!
Well, on another note, at least I know I'll have to replace the whole unit. Pretty pricey $$ I guess. Already checked different places, and my best buy will be a GM parts wholesaler on ebay. They only sell the real stuff cheap, not the crappy imitation stuff.

Ohhh!!! Forgot to ask....does anyone know if all '93-'02 took the same power antenna assembly, or is there diff. ones? I've seen some that say they all fit, and others say from '97-up. I don't know, wanna make sure I get the right part. Thanks!

If you can find a good GM parts guy, someone that has been in the business awhile. They do or used to make a rebuild kit for them. A lot cheaper than replacing the entire unit.

Where do you get the stubby one from? I walked outside one day and mine was bent at a 90 degree angle. I walked out the next day and it was snapped in half. I'm not a big fan of the power antenna anyhow
