Fiberglass hoods are shipped in big cardboard boxes with support for the corners to keep them from breaking. A metal hood is different - the corners aren't as fragile. I suggest just calling some of the truck shipping companies and ask them - UPS, FedEx are probaly too expensive - just use a regular hauling company. It'll go by weight, so get quotes plus try to weigh the hood.
Exatly JeffY, when my Harwood fiberglass hood arrived it was in a cardboard box with a ton of expandable foam at the corners and front edge. Even though yours is metal, I would take the same steps to ensure the corners dont get smacked and/or bent during shipping. The guy you sold it to would appreciate it, I'm sure.
