Any reason I should use this instead of the regular Mobil1 Synthetic? Thanks.

I would say def. stick with the regular and save that 10 bucks...especially since you change it very often. But about the color of the oil, i don't know, you'll have to wait for one of the guru's to answer.(there's you que fred)Originally posted by Jeffs Black 97 Formula A4I don't intend on going 15000 miles between oil changes. In fact, I currently change my oil every 1000-2000 miles. Probably overkill, but I like to keep the engine clean.
Also, is it normal for the oil to be brown when only putting 1000 miles on new oil? Thanks!

well i'm definately not a guru. but i do know that yesit's completely normal for your engine oil to be brown even if you change it that often. if it was black then i'd say there was a problem. but brown.....no worries.'95 T/A Conv., Green, Tan Top

It's not the life of the oil you have to worry about, it's the contaminants that the oil picks up. Regular synthetic is supposedly good for 10K miles if you change the filter every 2K. Personally, I never go farther than 3K on any oil. I would just stay with regular Mobil One and frequent changes.

This should be ok. I have seen some people that put even less than 1000 miles on the new oil and its brown. And I used to do 25+ oil changes a day!! When I was a Lube Tech. for GM.Originally posted by Jeffs Black 97 Formula A4

Regular Mobil1 with Lucas synthetic stablizer and Mobil filter since day on every 3000-4000 miles...229K on the clock with absolutely no problems.
I put in 4 quarts of oil and one quart of Lucas...I get back 4 quarts.

I put in 5 total and check the dip stick...it's right on. I've always put in 5 quarts...should I be putting in 6 quarts? I read 5.5 is what is recommended, but buying an extra quart only to put half doesn't add up for me...5 quarts and she's right on...I just might do 6 quarts then.Originally posted by ConEliteIs it just me or do the LS1's take 6 quarts?

Do you fill the filter with oil before you put it on? Do you check the level AFTER allowing the oil to circulate and warm up? That will determine the exact fill quantity.
If you change the oil evry 1,000 miles, you aren't gaining any advantage at all with synthetic oil. The main benefit of synthetic is longer life, including maintaining viscosity stability for a longer period, and resisting coking at very high temperatures. These are not issues for a 1,000 mile oil change.Fred

Of course I fill the filter before installing. Also, I thought synthetic was slippier than regular oil thus reducing engine wear. Anyway, I'll stick with regular Mobil1 synthetic.Originally posted by InjuneerDo you fill the filter with oil before you put it on?
