so now im off work for 8 days. i go out to my car this morning to turn it over it's a pretty damp day out and i go to turn it over and i hear CLUNK and nothing else happens so i let off go to turn it over again and hold it down and struggles to turn over then does now it's making a tapping sound the whole time not very loud but still loud enough to hear inside the car very well a friend said he thinks it's a loose valve the car's oil pressure stay's steady and just has that annoying click any suggestions on what to try first and where to buy the parts ?

i dont have the starting/clunking problem. However the ticking noise is something my car does as well. The issue doesnt seem to be effecting the performance of the car. Does yours?

It could be one of many problems, including lifters, valve train issues, exhaust leak. Also there has been a guy on another forum that told me to check the spark plugs. The tick he was hearing was the spark plug actually forcing itself out of the block, stripping the spark plug well, requiring a insert.

can you hear your tick better inside your car than outside, kind of like its coming through the interior vents?

Im going to work on the car w/ some buddies early this week (probably tuesday). Ill let everyone know how it goes. Hopefully this problem with be simple for the both of us.

Does the "tapping" sound remain consistent in loudness or intensity when idling, accelerating, deccelerating, etc? Or is there something in particular that will make the noise suddenly go away or get much louder?

          ticking sound

My 2002 SS has been tick'n from day one, I've wrote it off as tensioner. Really don't know if that is it or not.

Does it click when running? Or is it clicking instead of turning over? A clickor tick could be anything from a spun bearing to a bad lifter to loose rockers etc. But if it clicks instead of starting it is probably a low battery.
