  • Blown engine best way to proceed.

okay well a few days ago i was told it was just a stuck pushrod and change the oil and add a oil additive

so i do that im driving back home from the garage a short 15 min trip i had full oil pressure everything's going good then i hear a loud "Boom" and sounded like something fell out of my engine and bounced back out the rear of my car....

any idea's on what just happened
i pulled it over and looked under it a small puddle formed in 10 mins then i got it towed home it's sitting on the side of the road now.

    1997 camaro Z28 110,000

so i guess im tearing it down but any suggestions before i do and now if i go to turn it over it just makes a loud grinding noise and such

any ideas on where i can buy a new engine assembly if that's what it comes down to be cheaper to do ?

You could have blown a rod right through the oil Pan. The next step is New engine. An LS1 is in order. ha ha. No but an LT1 engine might be hard to find. Chances are all you need is a block and/or maybe heads and rotating assembly.

      Several options:
      1. Install a complete longblock assembly from a rebuilder.
      2. Rebuild the current one ( I would advise against that due to the noise and oil leak.
      3. Install a good used longblock purchased from an auto recycler.

which one do you think will be the most feasible and produce the best results both in longevity and performance.

I am also thinking while I'm under there turning the wrenches i should either send the tranny to get rebuilt or swap it with a t56.

Since my car is a 1997 is there any special things i need to know when it comes to get a longblock or tranny do i need to direct swap with a 1997?

        thank you for your responses.

also does anyone know of a good retailer to buy a long block assembly from.

I've had some luck with Jasper engines in the past. Albiet, these were street engines and not raced, they still represent a good value for a street engine that gets flogged on the weekends. Due to several changes in LT-1s over the years, stick with a 96-97 replacement.
