  • 400HP with Dyno tune

I read an article on the web about the most powerful LS1 with no aftermarket parts. It had 400.23RWHP with just a dyno tune. I was just wondering why this wasn't more common.
I am currently looking for the article again and I will post it as soon as I find it.
1999 Ram Air Trans Am. M6

SFC( not sure what kind), drilled/slotted rotors, K&N air filter, all free mods, 3" Borla cat back exaust, electric exaust cut out, NGK spark plugs, royal purple motor oil, and Zaino .Maybe more. I find more stuff done to it everytime I look at it.

I would be lead to believe that this LS1 had every single bolt-on imaginable (but maybe stock internally) and was a very strong motor from the factory. 400 RWHP = 470 FWHP, which is a signaficant amount for an all bolt-on LS1. Do you remember, is this an LS1 from an f-body or C5, and/or what year?

From what I remember it was a 1999 trans am. I remember the color of the car and parts of the article, but I can't remember the page. It was a dyno tuning page for sure and it was a champagne(spelleing) colored Trans am. I wish I could remember

I could believe 400 engine horsepower but not at the wheels. I've been around hundreds and hundreds of LS1 cars stock to heavily modded and I'd say that isn't possible for a stock LS1.

        Someone prove me wrong. LOL

The only way I can see 400 hp out of a stock LS1 would be if it were blueprinted to "factory stock" specs. Within those parameters, offset grinding of the crank is allowed for a small increase in stroke, an overbore is permitted, upgraded valve springs and pushrods, mild port work ,tons of little tricks here and there that make a "stock" LS1 on the high end of power production. Then, with only a "tune" it may come pretty close. I don't think close enough to call 400HP, but stout for a stocker anyway.

I does sound far fetched, thats why I brought it up. I am still trying to find the web page. I came across it when I first went to purchase my car becuase I was curious about the LS1 . Hopefully I find it and you guys can either be intrigued or get a good laugh out of it if it is indeed a hoax.

Did you possibly read about the ASA (American Speed Assoc) "spec" engines, built by GM/Lingenfelter in 1999? These were 300 production line LS1's, all produced in a single 3 hour period, and shipped to Lingenfelter, where they were matched as closely as possible, given new rod bolts, more durable valve springs, a dry sump oil system, and a more aggressive cam, and the PCM set up with a racing tune. The engines were then tested, sealed and certified and supplied to ASA racing teams for $12,000 for oval track racing. The engine made 430 flywheel HP @ 6,200rpm, and 430 lb-ft of torque at 4,800rpm.

No Sir.... As I remember it I was searching under LS1 RWHP or 1999 tran am rear wheel horse power, or something along those lines. The page was actually a page for a dyno tuning place , Ibelieve in tennessee. I am still looking though. I may give up and call it a misread on my part.

Are you sure it wasn't, say, FWHP? It's completely possible for FWHP, considering strong running bolt-on LS1s have dynoed around 340 at the wheels, which equates to 400 FWHP.

I'm gonna have to say anything is possible at this point. I've been trying for days since I started this thread, with no luck, to relocate the article. I guess if I ever run across it again I will repost. With so much information on the web it's really hard to find an article you read while just BS ing on the computer in the past.
